  • Definition: Railway draisines, also known as railbikes, were invented in the mid-19th century as a way for railway workers to inspect and maintain the tracks. Today, railway draisines are popular for recreational use, allowing people to explore scenic routes and abandoned railways that are no longer in use.  In Greece, the railbiking project took 15 years to happen, and now, for the first time, people can enjoy this amazing adventure. 
  • Distance: The railbiking tour covers a distance of 7 km, and on the way back, riders will cover a total of 14 km. The initial part of the journey involves a slight uphill, and riders will have to make a little effort. However, after the first stop, cycling will become more comfortable. The tour will include several stops along the way, giving riders a chance to rest and enjoy the scenery.
  • Difficulty: The railbiking tour is designed to be a leisurely activity, and there's no rush to complete it. The entire tour lasts for three hours, which provides ample time for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. 
  • Duration: Two and a half hours to three hours

    Directions
    To reach Megara using public transport, there are several convenient options available. One way is to take a bus or a train from Athens, as Megara is located approximately 45 kilometers west of the city. Another option is to hire a taxi or rent a car to drive.


    Bus - KTEL Megara

    The best option would be to take the bus. You can catch the KTEL Megara bus from Theseio metro station, which is in the center of Athens. The bus will drop you off right outside our starting point, and the ticket costs around 10 Euros for a return trip. Ensure that you alight at the correct stop, which will be in close proximity to Byzas Stadium. Use online maps to find our location. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, but it's worth it for the convenience and ease of travel.
    Train

    Alternatively, you could take the suburban railway to Megara railway station. However,  the railway station is 3 kilometers away from our starting point. So, you would need to either take a taxi or walk to our starting point. If you choose to take a taxi, the number for the local taxi is +30 2296 029414. The cost is approximatley 6 euros per cab.
